Information for International Applicants

If English is not your native language, please submit scores for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Test results should be sent to Washington University (code 6929). If you are taking the Internet-based test (IBT), we require a minimum of 100 on the internet exam. If you are taking the revised Paper-delivered Test (PBT), there will be no total score, and we will look at your individual section scores.

In addition to the TOEFL, WUSTL accepts the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic module. We require a minimum score of 6.5 on the IELTS Academic module in order for applicants to be considered for admission.

All tests must have been taken within 12 months prior to application.

EXCEPTION: Please note that the TOEFL may be waived for students who have completed at least three years of an undergraduate program in the U.S. or another English-speaking country. The TOEFL should still be taken if at least two years have passed since completing those three or more years of undergraduate studies.

Applicants with transcripts from outside the United States are required to have them evaluated by a credentialing agency, such as Global Credential Evaluators, Inc. (800-707-0979) or Educational Credentialing Evaluators. This evaluation must include course names, grades and credits in American terms, along with a description of the grading systems used. The credentialing agency also must verify that the student possesses a baccalaureate degree. Unevaluated international transcripts will not be accepted. Official transcripts for all courses taken must be sent from all colleges attended.

If accepted into the Program in Occupational Therapy, prior to enrollment the international student will be required to provide the following: Official documentation of ability to supply tuition and living expenses for the period of enrollment as part of immigration requirements; proof of adequate major medical health insurance; and, submission of eligibility documents to obtain an application for a student visa from Washington University.

International students may sit for the NBCOT examination if they plan to practice in the United States or they may be required to successfully complete the NBCOT examination if certification is required by apprenticeship site.
