Where it's AT: Assistive Technology in 2015

This course introduces assistive technology (AT) as an environmental intervention to preserve, augment or improve social, emotional and physical well-being. Intervention strategies that maximize participation in daily activities for people with varying limitations and disabilities will be examined. The technologies and interventions will include descriptions of special equipment and assistive technology devices. This seminar will provide an opportunity for hands-on learning experiences with a broad range of technology.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • identify clinical components of a seating and mobility evaluation and perform basic measurements
  • list three options for wheeled mobility and clinical reasoning behind selection of such technology
  • compare and contrast several cushioning and postural support devices
  • demonstrate knowledge of basic computer accessibility options
  • recommend resources for adaptive recreation and assistive technology available to persons with disabilities to help with parenting tasks.
