Community Practice

The Community Practice Program (CPP) is an integral part of Washington University’s Program in Occupational Therapy, providing state-of-the-art service in a variety of practice settings. Each practice setting is the result of the research interests, efforts, and investigative findings of our faculty members and students. Occupational therapy evaluation and intervention services are provided for individuals with disabilities and/or chronic health conditions referred by physicians, community, and governmental agencies. Clients include, but are not limited to, persons with stroke and their caregivers; persons with low vision problems; children with autism and with sickle cell anemia; veterans with traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder; persons with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers; persons with mental illness, residents of assisted living facilities, etc.

The CPP is designed to assist clients overcome barriers that limit their occupational performance, to enhance their participation in meaningful, purposeful activities, and to encourage and support their engagement in family and community life. The CPP clinicians work collaboratively , across settings, to ensure that all clients have the opportunity to benefit from the varied areas of expertise and services, as appropriate.
