International Guests Visit the Program
Sylvia Rodger, PhD, OTR, Associate Professor and Head of the Occupational Therapy Department at University of Queensland, Queensland, Australia, an international leader in pediatrics, met with faculty and the curriculum committee, toured labs, lunched with students and presented her work. 

Janet Wiles, Affiliate Professor in the Queensland Brain Institute, University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, a computational neuroscientist leading a team of machine learning specialists in the analysis of the Cognitive Rehabilitation Research Data collected during the past six years on patients diagnosed with stroke and hospitalized at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, presented her research, “Visualising the Links Between Neuroscience and Everyday Life: Cross-Metric Relationships in Stroke Data.”

Gunilla Eriksson, PhD, Lecturer, Reg OT, Karolinska Institutet,  Stockholm, Sweden, is visiting as a postdoctoral research scholar (trainee) from October 26, 2009 through February 28, 2010.  She is working with the Cognitive Rehabilitation Research Group (CRRG) exploring the relationship between participation in everyday occupations, executive impairment, and life satisfaction collaborating with Drs. Carolyn Baum, Lisa Connor, Tim Wolf, Erin Foster, and Kathy Kniepmann.

Dr. Arne H. Eide, Chief Scientist at SINTEF, the largest independent research organization in Norway; Professor at Sør-Trøndelag University College in Norway; and Guest Professor at Stellenbosch University, South Africa visited the Program and met with Dr. David Gray and his colleagues and with students. His  international research experience includes collaboration with universities and organizations serving individuals with disabilities in Sub-Saharan Africa.  His primary field of interest is disability statistics, poverty and disability, and rehabilitation research. He presented his research, "Determinants of Social Participation."

Dr. Kjersti Vik, an occupational therapist on faculty at the Department of Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Health Education and Social Work, Sørtrøndelag University College, Norway, presented her work, "Older Adults, Participation, and Rehabilitation." Her research focus is on older adults and participation within the context of rehabilitation, particularly community-based occupational therapy and environmental factors. 

Dr. Thilo Kroll, Senior Lecturer at Alliance for Self Care Research in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Dundee, Scotland, is establishing rehabilitation as an area of research. Dr. Kroll has been working on disability, rehabilitation and outcomes for more than 15 years and has published widely. He presented his work, "Measuring quality of life: Who has been left out and why. ”
