Faculty Announcement: Stacy West-Bruce

Stacy West-Bruce, OTD, MSW, OTR/L, joined the Program in Occupational Therapy faculty on May 15 as an instructor in occupational therapy (PDA). She is the course master for Professional Identity and Practice I and provides support to several courses in the master’s and doctorate degree curricula. Recently, West-Bruce worked in the quality and safety department of a large health-care ministry and started a consulting business for occupational therapy student fieldwork experiences in community-based settings. She was also an adjunct professor at St. Louis Community College, Maryville University and Saint Louis University.

West-Bruce earned a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Saint Louis University in 2000, a master’s degree in social work from Washington University in 2004 and her doctorate in occupational therapy from Saint Louis University in 2018. She is interested in research and interventions aimed at supporting healthy and supportive aging in place strategies for older adults and occupational access based on factors such as race, socioeconomic status and location. She aims to continue research with justice-involved individuals and advocating for transformation of the current justice system. Finally, she is interested in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives as it relates to occupational therapy education and practice spaces.
