Fleita, Walsh receive LSVT Global grants

Maggie Fleita, OTD/S ’20, received a student research grant from Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) Global to fund her doctoral project, "Effects of Improvisational Dance on Cognition and Daily Function Among People with Parkinson's Disease." LSVT Global provides seed funding to two occupational therapy students per year who plan on or are completing behavioral treatment studies with neurologically impaired patients. Maggie is mentored by Erin Foster, PhD, OTD, OTR/L.

PhD student Ryan Walsh, MSOT, OTR/L, also received a grant from LVST Global to fund his doctoral project, "Effects of Client-Therapist Interaction on Patient Engagement in Enhanced Medical Rehabilitation for Spinal Cord Injury Inpatient Rehabilitation." Ryan’s project aims to adapt and test the Enhanced Medical Rehabilitation (EMR) to teach behavioral skills for occupational and physical therapists to engage patients with spinal cord injury receiving inpatient rehabilitation. He is mentored by Peggy Barco, OTD, OTR/L, SCDCM, CDRS, FAOTA, and Alex Wong, PhD, DPhil, BSOT.
