Lau to join faculty April 1

On April 1, the Program in Occupational Therapy will welcome Stephen Lau, PhD, assistant professor in occupational therapy and neurology (PDA), to its faculty. He will teach and mentor students in our PhD in Rehabilitation and Participation Science degree program and our Clinical Doctorate of Occupational Therapy degree program.

Lau earned his bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy in 2016 from Hong Kong Polytechnic University and his doctorate in philosophy in rehabilitation and participation science in 2022 from Washington University in St. Louis. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences in 2023.

His research interests include neurological rehabilitation, sleep medicine and mobile health technology. Lau’s research mission is to develop accessible, precise and effective rehabilitation in self-management, health promotion and participation enhancement among adults with stroke-related disabilities. He seeks to develop evidence-based behavioral and psychosocial interventions that effectively prevent and reduce stroke symptoms and improve participation in meaningful daily activities for stroke survivors to improve their health and continue their recovery in the community.
