Mack to join faculty August 1

On August 1, the Program in Occupational Therapy will welcome Amanda Mack, OTD, OTR/L, CLC, assistant professor of occupational therapy and medicine (PEFA), to its faculty. She will serve as the director of Post-Professional Education.

Mack earned her bachelor’s degree in therapeutic studies in 2011, her master’s degree in occupational therapy in 2013, and her post-professional doctorate in occupational therapy in 2019 from Boston University. She has served as the director of the Occupational Therapy Center for Learning, Participation and Rehabilitation since 2022 and as an instructor and fieldwork faculty member since 2019 at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston. Prior to that, she was the fieldwork coordinator from 2015 to 2019. She co-founded the Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion group within the Massachusetts Association for Occupational Therapy in 2020. She has also been a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association since 2010 and has served as an evaluator for the Accreditation Council for Occupational Education since 2020.

Her clinical and research interests focus on health and wellness with different populations (including maternal health and caregivers of people with chronic conditions), as well as on innovative occupational therapy education, including the use of simulation.

Mack will design and implement an online, post-professional doctoral degree in occupational therapy (PPOTD) for the Program. She has experience as both a student and an instructor of online post-professional and entry-level OTD curricula, as well as experience mentoring entry-level doctoral students. Her personal experiences give her a unique perspective on the structure and composition needed to deliver high-quality instruction and experiential learning on a virtual platform. Through innovative and engaging online curriculum delivery, Mack plans to help prepare occupational therapy practitioners to be leaders to advance clinical practice, education and knowledge in the field.
